The Charity Bull Shoot was established in 2007 with the intention that our local dart league become more involved with the community by hosting a Charity event. Numerous charitable organizations came to mind while planning the event, but Helping hands seemed to be at the top of the list at every turn. After a brief discussion with the Helping Hands board, it was determined that the Bull Shoot would become an annual event where dart players would compete against the dart board by throwing as many bulls as possible to raise money for the organization.

The thrill and anticipation of spending 6 hours standing at a throw line and alternating shots at 5 dartboards may be lost on some, and in their defense, I can understand their questioning why 20 individuals would spend an exhausting amount of time in a repetitive fashion throwing shiny pointed objects at a round cork board with numbers—in no apparent order—encircling the outer edge.

Well, I can’t explain the number patterns (Not today anyway), but I can illustrate the passion and drive shared by the 20 individuals who began the day rapidly tossing their darts with an accuracy that would rival an Olympic sharp shooter; only to succumb to the

dreaded noodle arm, forcing the players to rely on each other for strength in the closing rounds. The players were driven by their love of the sport, and by the opportunity to give a little back to their community. This is a sport that they excel at, and that is evident by the amount of money that was raised in the 6 short hours.

Yes, it is a sport, filled with passionate players within an inspiring town. They hit over 5,000 bullseyes, and raised over $5,000. The smiles and laughter were ever present, the only frustration stemming from the lack of choices on the juke box..ok, maybe that was me...

We invite everyone to come join the Bull Shooters on February 26. Root them on from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm. They would appreciate your support!

The 2010 Charity Extravaganza committee would like to thank the American Legion 361 for hosting the 2010 Charity Bull Shoot.
